Food therapy

As mentioned in my previous post, I started this past weekend with some disappointing news just one week after picking up my cap and gown. It was a low-blow, USF, telling me such devastating information on a Friday without any detail as to what went wrong or what I can do to fix it.

So what better way to pacify my sorrows but with food from the talented chefs of San Francisco. Sean and I had two good friends in town, Heidi and Nate, who welcomed my "need to feed" and supported me by joining in my feasting without reservation. We started with Hungarian sausages followed closely by Nuremberg sausages, washed down by a Hunter's Point Porter and some Bitburger-wannabe. The next day was spent snacking on fresh fruit, bread, and cheese from the Farmer's market, then on to New Mexican blue-corn enchiladas, finishing off the day's palette with family-style Eritrean food. Prior to their departure today, we took Heidi and Nate to dim-sum, a personal favorite, for more family-style dining.

My belly and my self-pity thanks you, San Francisco. You really know how to pick a girl up when she's down.

USF is not my friend

I don't think I've expressed on this blog my frustrations with USF, the program, the administration, the politics...but I shouldn't really complain, right? They helped me become licensed, they prepared me for my new role in the clinics, and they have steadily moved me towards the point of graduation this December without any hitches.

That is, until now.

I just found out (on a Friday night) that I did not pass my thesis.

HUGE bummer.

I wear the pants

At the beginning of September, Sean and I were in Ft. Collins, CO for Nate and Erin's wedding and spent our first evening at one of the local brewpubs. After a day of travel, we managed to complete a pitcher of stout and most of a pitcher of some pale ale with only a few measly Southwest Airlines peanuts in our bellies (Ok, we did have some tasty brick oven pizza, but it doesn't really help the alcohol absorption if you eat it after a 3-4 pints of beer have already gone down the hatch).

Let's just say my bar game skills only improve with inebriation. Although I did lose the first game of pool, I beat Sean for the next consecutive 3 games, then 4 sets of ping pong, then annihilated him at darts, and finished off by out-drinking him (thank you, Deutschland!). I rule.

But shhhhh, I told him I wouldn't tell anybody.

Making a triumphant return

All right, so it's been over 2 months since I've blogged. Give me a break, ok? I supremely underestimated the amount of work I had to accomplish this semester in my previous post.

Although I have an exam and six papers remaining, my thesis is complete and I'm nearing the light at the end of the tunnel. I picked up my cap and gown yesterday, which triggered the excitement of graduation...something I have not allowed myself to even consider until now.

So root me on, dear friends. I am looking forward to leaving my student life behind me.
